Where Hope Begins: The KCDes Story

In the heart of the Himalayas, where towering mountains meet vibrant cultures, Nepal’s children hold the promise of a bright future. Yet, for too many children, this promise is overshadowed by poverty, inequality, and a lack of access to basic needs. We believe that every child deserves an opportunity to thrive.

Founded in 2024, Khandbari Child Development Society (KCDeS) was born from a shared vision among a group of passionate people who witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by Nepal’s most vulnerable children. During their visits to remote mountain villages, our founders met children who walked hours to fetch water instead of attending school, young girls forced into early marriages, and families displaced by natural disasters. These encounters ignited a resolve to act towards creating opportunities for underprivileged children. Our story began with a simple belief that every child deserves the chance to grow up safe, healthy, and full of potential.

We started small, working hand-in-hand with local school teachers to build trust and provide modest support for educational opportunities. Our first initiative was to identify five school children in the remote district of Sankhuwasabha and provide financial support to them throughout their school years.

What drives us is the transformative power of hope. For example, the story of Saraswati Bishwakarma, a girl from a marginalized community or that of Sangak Bhote from the remote village of Bhotkhola inspire hope.

However, there are huge challenges ahead. One in four children under five suffers from malnutrition in Nepal. And nearly 20% of secondary-age children are out of school. This must be corrected in order for us to be able to meet our common commitment that no child is left behind. We are deeply rooted in Nepal’s culture and guided by compassion. This is a shared journey of resilience, hope, and transformation. Join us as we try to turn our dreams into reality.
